I am a Frame to Finish Carpenter with over 20 years of experience. I have worked
throughout New England on numerous high-end residential and commercial projects; in
addition to countless smaller projects.
Most of my work in the last 10 years has been as a Self-Employed, Finish Carpenter. I am willing to travel or relocate to secure employment.
I attach a short summary of my work experience and hope you consider me for employment with your company.
The following is a short summary of my work experience in the construction industry.
I started working as carpenter about twenty-four years ago, while living in western Massachusetts. I began work as a framing carpenter working on a few small projects and after about a year of employment, hired on with a framing contractor, working in northern Connecticut; JCK Contracting. I continued to work for JCK, behind three framing crews, doing corrections, installing walls and roughing stair stringers. JCK built over eighty homes per year. I also started sub-contracting siding, decks and interior finish work while working in Connecticut.
I moved to South Pomfret, Vermont in the late 1980’s and worked for a few different contractors in the Upper Connecticut River Valley; working in a more diverse capacity involving all aspects of carpentry including remodeling and renovations.
Many of the projects were in Woodstock, Vermont and included some retail establishments, private residences and a twenty-one million dollar addition renovation of the Woodstock Inn. I also worked as a framer then as a sider at Kendall at Hanover in Hanover New Hampshire, the largest construction site east of the Mississippi at the time.
When employment was slow, I began contracting several remodeling and home improvement projects in the Upper Valley, Norwich VT. / Hanover NH. Area.
I also was employed by Simpson Construction as a foreman, to run a crew, constructing custom condo’s across from Pico Ski area adjacent to Killington VT, Fox Hollow Condominium’s.
In the 1990’s I experienced some injuries that kept me out of work at different times. I spent most of this time on Cape Cod and although I did work as a framing carpenter, I sought more work as a finish carpenter, rather than framing. I also worked on several high-end projects in the Boston area, during this period, traveling from Cape Cod to Boston. I also worked on several high-end homes on Cape Cod for a few different builders including Rogers and Marney of Osterville.
In the year 2003, I returned to Vermont, reside in Brattleboro and had been traveling to Cape Cod and the Boston area to work. I then was able to secure work closer to where I now reside, working in Brattleboro on some residential projects doing both interior and exterior trim, constructing decks and some framing. I also worked on a project in Cavendish, VT. at the Elementary School for H.P. Cummings, doing everything from demolition to installing cabinets, a commercial project.
Given the slow economy and lack of construction in Southern Vermont I traveled to the Boston area for work for a few brief periods, installing interior trim on a couple of high end homes in Watertown and Brookline, Mass.
Most recently I sought work in Southern Vermont and Western Massachusetts
doing light frame carpentry and interior finish sub-contracting the rough framing of stair carriages at Butterfield Commons in Dover, Vermont; framing a small addition in Northampton, Mass. for Wright Builders, Inc.; installation of interior trim in an office building for Wright Builders; installation of interior trim at Lathrop Communities in Easthampton, Mass.; along with numerous other small, short projects. In 2008 I worked for several months at Mount Snow on a post and beam condominium project framing decks, interior petitions and completing the interior trim. Most recently I worked in Needham, Massachusetts installing interior trim.
In the past twenty-four years I have worked on everything from additions and renovations of homes, to schools and retail establishments, from the construction of small single family homes to, multi-million dollar residences, from apartment buildings to custom condos. I have worked as a framer constructing many custom features including round and elliptical in different applications. I have constructed many custom sun decks with inlaid decking, incorporating and constructing planters, privacy walls and milling custom parts. I have framed roofs that were curved or swooped. I have drawn prints and designed projects. I have constructed homes totally alone and worked as foreman leading a crew.
In the past ten years I have worked mainly as an interior trim carpenter installing millwork in additions, single family homes, apartment buildings, condo’s, commercial and retail establishments. Many of the homes I have worked on in the past, range into the millions. Many of the homes were in gated communities and many of the properties had a multi-million dollar home existing on the property that was demolished and a larger and more elaborate home built in its place. My last employment was on a thirty-six acre estate in Needham, Massachusetts; working as an interior trim carpenter.
I have installed many different types of custom millwork including, casing, doors, built-ins, cabinets, stairs and trim; from chair rail with wanes coating, crown with back bands, coffered ceilings, pillars and pilasters, fireplace mantles; many times producing built-ins on site, producing custom parts and moldings.
In the year 2000 I acquired an unrestricted, Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License. More recently I have purchased a computer system upgrading my office skills using Microsoft Office and two off the shelf architectural programs.
In my personal life, I like to fish, hunt, ski, bicycle, run and workout. I tie fishing flies and at one time while living on Cape Cod, was designing for a company that was producing and marketing my products for me, with vendors including, Cabela’s.
I am willing to travel to any location or relocate and open to any reasonable wage offer, as work has been slow.
Respectfully Submitted,
Glenn Thibeault
